Case Context: This matter involved total insulation failure of the Estoril building on Brickell Avenue due to widespread mold, requiring the jury to understand a highly complex mechanical system spanning the entire structure.
The Problem: The plaintiff’s expert needed to explain how nearly five miles of piping contributed to the failure. Verbal testimony alone could not convey the scale, orientation, or interconnected nature of the system.
Strategic Approach: Working closely with expert Jim Bidgood, the team focused on creating a clear, spatially accurate narrative that would allow jurors to follow the piping system logically and at a comprehensible pace.
Design & Execution: Using as-planned documentation and extensive on-site photographic surveys of every floor and ceiling cavity, the building and pipe system were modeled from the ground up. An interactive visualization was developed to guide the jury through the pipe chase at a controlled pace, with the ability to pause at key talking points such as supply and return orientation and pipe diameter.
Courtroom Use: The expert controlled the presentation live, advancing the model section by section and stopping as needed to reinforce testimony and answer questions.
Outcome: The plaintiff was awarded the full $21 million, with the visuals playing a central role in making the technical failure understandable and credible to the jury.
